A Mistake in Obama’s Inaugural Address

By spokesman | January 20, 2009

Barack Obama made a small mistake in his inaugural address.  He said that “Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath.”  While President Obama is the 44th president, only 43 Americans have taken the presidential oath.  President Grover Cleveland served two non-consecutive terms (1885-1889 and 1893-1897) and is recorded in history as the 22nd and 24th President of the United States.

See the list of presidents on the White House website for verification.

I caught that too and wondered how so many really smart people could have read that portion of the speech and not noticed.
