Arco Sports - Bellagio, Italy
By spokesman | June 30, 2008
Arco Sports is a sporting goods store in Bellagio, Italy. On a recent trip to Bellagio, I came across the store while shopping in Bellagio. The store rents road bikes. Many cyclists rent bikes to ride from Bellagio to the Madonna del Ghisallo and the Museo De Ciclismo in Magreglio Italy. This is not a ride for the faint of heart. The detailed map provided by Arco Sports, shows the route and the steepness of the climb to the bicycling shrines. It is a significant climb with multiple switch backs. Sections of the climb have a slope over 16%. If you choose not to cycle to the shrine, be sure to visit it. It is truly unique. My traveling companions, who were not cyclists, enjoyed the church and museum very much. It gives great insight into the role of cycling in Italy’s culture.

There is other good cycling in the region and you may want to rent a bike to see some of the other nearby towns. Roads are narrow at points, so biking is best done during the non-peak times of the season or early in the day. Bicycles are permitted on the ferries that travel between the towns on Lake Como. Some of the Lombardy bicycling clubs have cycling maps of the area.
Also be sure to check out the custom cycling jerseys at Arco sports. They are a great souvenir of the trip to the region and are better than the souvenirs offered at the church and museum. Unlike many American museums, that emphasize the gift shop, the museum gift shop had very little. In fact, the museum did not have any cycling jerseys.

I found an outfit in Italy that will actually deliver bikes to your villa or hotel. They are based near Bologna but work with shops like this one and rental agents all over Italy. Give ‘em a try: www.BikeRentalsPlus.com
