Armstrong vs. Simeoni - Enough Already

By spokesman | November 10, 2008

Recently, Lance Armstrong and Filippo Simeoni  have been engaged in a war of words.  The two cyclists have been enemies for many years.  Simeoni started the latest battle with some of recent comments about Lance and Lance quickly responded to Simeoni’s comments.  I won’t go into the history of the conflict, you can get the relevant details from the previous links.  However I will offer Lance some advice.

1. Ignore Simeoni- You have already won.  Your comeback has generated significant media and public interest.  You are a member of a strong team.  You will participate in the Giro next year and will likely be one of the favorites.  Simeoni has none of these things - public recognition, a strong team or an invitation to the Giro.  Your responses give him more publicity.

2. Your comments make you look foolish- Your off-the-cuff comments are inconsistent with earlier comments and are not believable.  Your would be much better off just saying “no comment” when asked about Simeoni.  Take the high road and don’t let him drag you into an on-going debate in the press.

3. Ignore Simeoni - I know I covered this one already, but it is important enough that it is worth repeating.

4. Think of  this conflict in terms of  a bicycle race -   His comments are not a threat to you.  Let him talk, but don’t respond to his attacks.
