Fixed Gear Bicycles Of Adams Morgan
By spokesman | August 4, 2008
One of my favorite bicycle websites is the Fixed Gear Gallery. The site publishes pictures of fixed gear bicycles submitted by readers. I admire the creativity of the people who build and customize the bicycles. It is a great source of ideas for anyone considering building a fixed gear bicycle.
There is a neighborhood in Washington D.C called Adams Morgan, that has a large number of fixed gear bicycles. One evening last week, I walked through Adams Morgan and took pictures of all of the fixed gear bikes that I saw in a 4 block span. It was like walking through a live version of the Fixed Gear Gallery. The pictures are in the video embedded in this post. The music in the video is from a live recording of BG & The Mojo Hands. If you have trouble seeing the video in the window below, click here to watch it on youtube.

“We’re sorry. This video is no longer available.”
I added a link to the post that takes you to Youtube to watch the video - I am not sure why the “video is no longer available” message appears when you try to view it through the embedded viewer in the blog. - Mike

I still don’t know what “fixed gear” means. What am I looking for this this video? Look like normal bikes to me.
On a fixed gear bike, you can’t coast; there is no freewheel. As long as the bike is moving, the pedals will also be moving. This forces the rider to pedal at all times. The following website has excellent information on fixed gear bikes
