Olympic Track Cycling
By spokesman | August 15, 2008
The Olympic track cycling events begin today but I don’t know if they will get much television coverage. Most of the prime time coverage seems to be on swimming and gymnastics. Track and field events will be added to the mix soon and that won’t leave much room for cycling. However if you do catch some of the races, here is a good explanation of the different events (sprint, pursuit, points race and keirin) held on the track.
Taylor Phinney, the 18 year old son of former professional racing cyclist Davis Phinney and former Olympic gold medal racing cyclist and speed skater Connie Carpenter-Phinney, will be racing in the track events. If he was a thoroughbred race horse, he would be a favorite just based on his genes. Perhaps his participation will get the track races some television coverage.
