Vanilla Bicycles
By spokesman | April 1, 2009

The most recent issue of Forbes had an article on several businesses that have not be effected by the recession. One of the businesses that was highlighted in the article is Vanilla Bicycles, a maker of custom bikes based in Portland, Oregon. Vanilla is a small company that makes approximately 40 to 50 bikes per year. The bikes are made from high quality steel tubes made of the strongest and lightest alloys available. The lugs are from a master craftsman and include artistic details. Silver is used to bond the lugs and tubes. The average bike costs about $7000.
The company makes a variety of bikes including road, cyclo-cross, touring, commuting and track. The picture in this post is one of their touring bikes with classic touring features such a racks for front and rear panniers, fenders and bar end shifters.
Since Vanilla is a small company, you can probably get any customization that you want. However there was already a four year waiting list for their bikes before the Forbes article on Vanilla Bicycles.
